John Merrill is a Manchester-based artist whose work is mainly photographic.  

In a former life he was a psychiatrist.

Since 2008 he has produced a panoply of work drawing upon influences as diverse as surrealism, pop art and conceptualism.     


In 2013 he exhibited at "Look 13", the Liverpool International Photography Exhibition, with the Lamppost Collective and he was artist in residence with the Manchester Modernist Society, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the iconic Toastrack Building


In 2014 he was awarded an MA with distinction from Manchester School of Art.


In 2015 he was shortlisted for the Bloomberg New Contemporaries.

He is currently undertaking a PhD by research, "Portrait as Landscape," at Manchester School of Art.
